VOLPAIA COLTASSALA GRAN SELEZIONE 2018

When Giovannella Stianti and Carlo Mascheroni inherited Volpaia in 1966, they absorbed a functioning medieval village alongside its vineyards — and built one of Chianti Classico's most distinctive estates around both. Coltassala draws from a single 3.53-hectare organically farmed plot at 518 meters in the Radda hills, where galestro and alberite soils push 95% Sangiovese and 5% Mammolo toward firm structure. Aged 24 months in new French oak followed by at least six months of bottle rest, the wine opens with dark cherry, vanilla, and cacao, finishing long with dry tannins and cedar.
