The Cavicchioli family has cultivated Lambrusco in Modena's San Prospero province since the early 1900s, with Umberto beginning commercial bottling in 1928 and grandsons Sandro and Claudio now stewarding 235 acres of sustainably farmed vineyards—among the region's largest holdings—planted in traditional pergola systems to combat Emilia-Romagna's humid climate. This Robanera ("black thing") comes from 100% Lambrusco Grasparossa grown on rocky, sloped soils in the prestigious Castelvetro appellation's Apennine foothills, where poor terrain produces darker, more structured wines than valley-floor Lambruscos. Winemaker Sandro Cavicchioli crafts this semi-dry sparkler at 9.5% ABV with an elegant, intense floral bouquet, delivering dark cherry, blackberry, and violet notes with pronounced acidity and fine bubbles that cut through Emilia's rich egg pasta, cured meats, and aged cheeses—a versatile, celebratory expression of Italy's most underestimated sparkling wine.
