Andrea Cortonesi founded Uccelliera in 1986 after purchasing the estate from Ciacci Piccolomini, releasing his first vintage in 1991. Situated in Castelnuovo dell'Abate in Montalcino's southeast corner, the vineyards sit at 150–350 meters elevation across clay, sand, and iron-rich soils, producing consistently ripe, structured Sangiovese under practicing organic farming. Fruit is sourced exclusively from Brunello-designated plots, cold-macerated, then fermented with native yeasts over 25–30 days before aging in oak. The 2023 delivers dark cherry, dried herbs, and a hint of iron-tinged earth, with firm tannins and a long, savory finish.
