From Castelnuovo dell'Abate in Montalcino's southeastern corner, Uccelliera's practicing organic vineyards span 150–350 meters across clay, sand, and iron-rich soils—conditions that consistently yield precise, terroir-driven Sangiovese. Andrea Cortonesi, who founded the estate in 1986 after his tenure at Ciacci Piccolomini, ferments with native yeasts in stainless steel over 25–30 days before aging 24 months in French and Slavonian oak. The 2021 scores 96 points from both James Suckling and Jeb Dunnuck, delivering wild strawberry, black cherry, violet, and licorice with chalky tannins, refreshing acidity, and a long mineral finish. Drink 2026–2046.
