Solaia inverts the typical Super Tuscan formula: where most blends lean on Sangiovese, this wine is led by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, with Sangiovese playing a supporting role. The fruit comes from the Tignanello estate in Chianti Classico, where Pliocene marine marlstone soils high in limestone and fossil deposits sit on southwest-facing hillside slopes. Antinori ages Solaia in French oak barriques before bottling. The 2022 opens with blackcurrant, dark cherry, and cedar, moving into black plum, graphite, and espresso with firm, fine-grained tannins on the finish.
