STAG'S LEAP CASK 23 2014

Cask 23 sits above Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' other Cabernets in the portfolio hierarchy, built entirely from the estate's most geologically distinct block: a fractured volcanic palisades outcrop in the Stags Leap District where thin basalt soils force deep root penetration and limit yields dramatically. The 2014 vintage was aged in new French oak before final assemblage, producing a wine with black cherry, cassis, and cedar on the nose, a structured mid-palate with fine-grained tannins, and a finish carrying graphite and dried herb. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' 1973 Cabernet famously outscored top Bordeaux at the 1976 Judgment of Paris blind tasting.
