The Stags Leap District — a narrow stretch of volcanic rock and alluvial benchland east of the Napa River — produces Cabernets known for their iron-fist-in-velvet-glove structure, tannins that soften unusually early while preserving concentration. Stag's Leap Wine Cellars' SLV is sourced from the estate vineyard that put the appellation on the map at the 1976 Judgment of Paris blind tasting. The 2014 vintage saw a dry, even growing season in Napa, delivering wines with deep color, polished tannins, and dark cherry, cassis, and graphite on the palate with a long, cedar-tinged finish.
