Granite and sandstone soils on a steep east-facing slope, 380–450 meters above the southern edge of Saint-Joseph, push stress into vines planted through the 1980s and '90s — the kind of site that earns concentration without manipulation. Jean-Baptiste Souillard farms with lutte raisonnée, minimizing chemical inputs across these Northern Rhône parcels. Whole-cluster fermentation adds savory, stemmy complexity to the Syrah, which then ages 13 months in neutral oak before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Blackberry, black plum, and crushed violet lead, backed by peppery spice, granite-driven minerality, and fine-grained tannins on a long finish.
