Until a road reached Bunnahabhain in the 1960s, the distillery's only supply line was the sea — a fact that still echoes in the briny, maritime character of everything made there. Staoisha is the distillery's heavily peated variant, named after the small loch whose water cools the stills, and accounts for roughly 20% of annual output, making single-cask independents hard to find. Signatory Vintage pulled cask #900208 — distilled September 27, 2013, and bottled September 2, 2022 after eight years in a dechar/rechar hogshead — and bottled it at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered with natural color. Campfire smoke, salted caramel, and citrus peel open up, with iodine, smoked honey, and black pepper carrying into a long, ashy, brine-laced finish.
