In 1990, a consortium of wine investors including Hugh Johnson co-founded Royal Tokaji to revive fine winemaking in Hungary's Tokaj region after decades of communist-era decline. Their Dry Furmint draws from volcanic soils — a mix of clay, loess, and rhyolite tuff — that give Furmint its signature tension. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve the grape's natural acidity, it delivers aromas of apple blossom and pear, with ripe apricot and peach on the palate, and finishes clean and mineral-driven with a bright citrus edge.
