Betty O'Shaughnessy purchased her first Howell Mountain vineyard in 1996, and the estate's now sourcing from three sustainably farmed sites—Amphitheater, Rancho del Oso, and Osprey's Nest—originally planted in 1997. Above the Napa Valley fog line, volcanic soils and high elevation produce concentrated fruit with firm tannins and naturally sharp acidity. The 2021 blends 83% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Carmenere, and St. Macaire, then ages 21 months in French oak, arriving at 14.8% alcohol with dark berry, mountain herb, and mineral character throughout.
