Black cherry, dark fruit, and sweet spice come forward immediately in the 2021 Ornellaia, with barbecue smoke and plush tannins rounding out a full-bodied structure built for the cellar. The blend — 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 7% Petit Verdot — draws from Bolgheri's mix of gravel, clay, and sandy coastal soils, where Tyrrhenian sea breezes moderate the Tuscan heat. Fruit ripeness at 15% alcohol is balanced by aging in French oak with partial new barrels, giving the wine both density and eventual integration with bottle age.
