Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild shook hands on their Napa Valley partnership in 1978, the first time a first-growth Bordeaux house had formally joined forces with a California producer. The 2017 vintage in this 1.5L magnum is a blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon with Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Malbec, sourced from the Oakville bench where well-drained alluvial soils push vines toward concentrated fruit. Plum, blackberry, and cassis lead, with sage and spice layered through, fine-grained tannins carrying a long, fresh finish.
