California's hot Central Valley climate makes it well-suited to producing Madeira-style fortified wine, giving Opici — a fourth-generation New Jersey family producer with California winery roots going back to the 1940s — the warm, sugar-ripe fruit base this style demands. The wine is made in the Madeira tradition: fortified to raise alcohol, then heat-treated via an estufagem-style process to drive oxidation and develop its character. Deep amber in color, it delivers caramel, toasted nuts, and dried fruit, with a sweet, lingering finish. Solid for demi-glace and brown sauces; equally serviceable sipped from a snifter.
