NINO NEGRI GRUMELLO VALTELLINA SUPERIORE 'SASSOROSSO' 2020

When Nino Negri took over the family cantina in Chiuro in the early 20th century, Valtellina's steep alpine terraces were already centuries old — carved from south-facing granite and gneiss slopes above the Adda River valley in Lombardy. The Grumello subzone's rocky, mineral-rich soils and elevation push Chiavennasca (Nebbiolo) to produce concentrated yet precise fruit. Aged in oak, the Sassorosso delivers blackberry, dried cherry, and violet on the nose, with firm but refined tannins, an iron-tinged mid-palate, and a long finish of crushed stone and dried herbs.
