Perched at 500 meters on Mount Etna's northern slope, Monteleone cultivates Nerello Mascalese with small amounts of Nerello Cappuccio in volcanic sandy soils enriched by the nearby Alcantara River. These 1970-planted vines, trained in spurred cordon, yield limited fruit harvested manually in cool morning hours. Eighteen months in French tonneaux followed by bottle aging develops delicate red cherry and wild strawberry aromas with distinctive volcanic minerality and smoky undertones. The palate reveals elegant cranberry and pomegranate flavors interwoven with earthy herbs and crushed stone, while silky tannins and bright acidity provide structure to this refined Etna Rosso, embodying Sicily's unique high-altitude terroir.
