Brunello di Montalcino requires a minimum of five years aging before release, and Mocali works within that framework from southwest-facing vineyards at 300–350 meters elevation in Montalcino's cooler, higher-altitude zones. The estate's 6 hectares of Sangiovese Grosso grow in marl and limestone soils that push mineral structure into the wine. Fermented traditionally and aged in large Slavonian oak casks, the 2018 delivers dried cherry, tobacco, and dried herbs, with a firm tannic backbone, iron-tinged mid-palate, and a long, earthy finish.
