Sour mash whiskey that defies easy categorization — its grain bill sits outside both bourbon and rye definitions, giving it a profile that's genuinely its own. Made in Kentucky by Michter's, it uses the sour mash process, where a portion of previously fermented mash seeds each new fermentation batch. Tasting notes run warm and layered: toasted burnt sugar, candied cherries, honeyed vanilla, and baking spice, with a finish that shifts toward rye-like dryness. Named Whisky of the Year 2019 by The Whisky Exchange, the first American whiskey to earn that distinction.
