Michter's US★1 Sour Mash—named Whisky of the Year 2019 by The Whisky Exchange as the first American whiskey to achieve this honor—forms the foundation for this limited-release Toasted Barrel Finish expression crafted by Master Distiller Dan McKee and Master of Maturation Andrea Wilson. After initial aging in fire-charred new American white oak, the whiskey undergoes secondary maturation in custom barrels assembled from 18-month air-dried wood and toasted (not charred) to a specific level selected after extensive evaluation. This small-batch Kentucky whiskey at 86 proof opens with toffee and buttery vanilla alongside fragrant honey, milk chocolate, and orange peel, while the mid-palate reveals toasty campfire character that intensifies cherry and baking spice notes.
