Maker's Mark has farmed its Star Hill Farm in Loretto, Kentucky [using sustainable practices] since Bill Samuels Sr. founded the distillery in 1953, sourcing soft red winter wheat — not rye — as the grain bill's flavor grain, producing a characteristically smooth bourbon. Cask Strength skips water adjustment entirely, bottling each small batch at 107–114 proof after a minimum seven years in new charred American oak. Expect concentrated salted caramel, warm vanilla, and toasted oak on the nose, with dark cherry and baking spice on the palate, finishing with dark chocolate and espresso.
