Old-vine Sangiovese Grosso grown at high altitude in Montalcino's cooler northeastern quadrant gives Ragnaie VV its structural backbone — elevation preserves acidity while extending hang time well into autumn. Le Ragnaie, farmed organically by Riccardo Campinoti, sources this wine from its oldest parcels, where vine age concentrates flavor with minimal intervention. Aging in large Slavonian and French oak casks allows slow, even development without extracting excess wood character. The result is a Brunello with dried cherry, iron, dried violets, and a firm, grippy tannic finish with lingering mineral tension.
