Chinon's reputation rests on Turanian limestone and gravel soils along the Vienne River, a combination that pulls tension and red-fruit clarity out of Cabernet Franc in ways few appellations can match — and Jean Marie Berthier, five generations into farming this stretch of the Loire, earned organic certification in 2022 to work those soils cleanly. The wine opens with fresh raspberry, crushed red currant, and a hint of graphite, with a leafy, savory mid-palate and a cool, mineral finish that stays light on its feet.
