Red cherry, dried rose petal, and forest floor arrive with quiet intensity in the glass, grounded by a mineral finesse that reflects the split-character terroir of Mugnier's 1.14-hectare Musigny parcel. Lower-slope fissured rock allows deep root penetration and rapid drainage, while upper-slope marly soil lightened by oolitic limestone scree retains just enough moisture to ensure even ripening every year. Vines planted between 1947 and 1962 — old enough that Mugnier downgraded a 1997 replanted section to village-level Chambolle-Musigny rather than compromise the grand cru — yield between 2,000 and 5,000 bottles annually. The 2017 harvest was clean enough to require no sorting, a first for the domaine.
