The historic Domaine Mugnier, established in the 1880s, showcases the distinctive terroir of their prized Clos de la Maréchale vineyard. This 9.55-hectare east-facing Premier Cru sits alongside the route nationale between Comblanchien and Premeaux, featuring limestone-clay soils studded with oolithic limestone pebbles. Some vines date back to the 1910s, planted by Frédéric's ancestors. After a 54-year lease to Domaine Faiveley ended in 2004, winemaker Frédéric Mugnier reclaimed this family treasure. The domaine practices sustainable viticulture, eschewing industrial fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides, with Frédéric's engineering background informing his thoughtful, minimal-intervention approach.
Burghound (96): An exuberantly floral-suffused nose is perfumed, airy and wonderfully spicy. The lacy, pure and focused middle weight flavors display an almost aggressive minerality on the youthfully austere and equally long finale that is shaped by notably fine-grained tannins. This beauty of an Amoureuses is already stunningly good with the development potential to match. Pure class.
Vinous (94): The 2022 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a far superior bouquet to the Les Fuées, with black cherry, forest floor, iris flower and light violet scents unfolding on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red berry fruit and insistent grip. It has obviously more depth and concentration than the nascent 2023, with touches of white pepper and clove on the finish. Very fine.
