Founded in the early 1970s by South Dakota farmer Jerry Lohr, who pioneered California's Central Coast as a world-class winegrowing region, J. Lohr farms over 2,700 acres in Paso Robles—now his family's home base for Bordeaux varietals and Rhône grapes. This 2023 Pure Paso blends benchmark Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah, two varieties intertwined in the Lohr family's four-decade Paso Robles history, sourced from estate vineyards where 100°F days and 50°F nights stress vines in diverse soils. At 15% alcohol, the wine shows cocoa powder, caramel, anise, black cherry, bright focus, and firm finish—J. Lohr's dense, approachable house style packaged as a tribute to this frontier region.
