Long maceration and aging in large Slavonian oak botti define Giacosa Fratelli's approach to this 100% Nebbiolo from the Scarrone cru in Castiglione Falletto. The vineyard's south-facing calcareous marl soils deliver the structural backbone Barolo is known for, and a decade of bottle age on the 2014 has softened this wine considerably. At 14.5% ABV, it opens with dried rose, black cherry, and tar, moves through tobacco and leather on the palate, and finishes with licorice and a grip of fine, settled tannin.
