GEORG BREUER RHEINGAU SPATBURGUNDER 2024

Bernhard Breuer was a central figure in the Charta movement that pushed German winemakers toward dry-style wines in the 1980s; his daughter Theresa now runs the 30-hectare Rheingau estate he shaped, with cellar master Markus Lundén overseeing production. Certified organic and Fair'n Green, the vineyards span Rüdesheim and Rauenthal on steep north-bank Rhine slopes over gravel, clay, slate, and quartzite. Hand-harvested and gently macerated, the Spätburgunder is fermented in steel and large used oak with no malolactic fermentation — bright sour cherry and forest berry up front, subtle smoke mid-palate, and a spiced finish with soft tannins.
