FRANCK ET SYLVAIN GODON SAUVIGNON BLANC LOIRE VALLEY 2023

Flint is the thing to notice here. The Godon brothers farm roughly eight acres organically just south of the Sancerre hill, across the terroirs of St Satur, Chavignol and Menetou Râtel, and they plant Sauvignon Blanc in the flintiest ground they have, saving the limestone parcels for Pinot Noir. They are the first generation in the family to bottle their own fruit rather than sell the crop off. Fermented with ambient yeast in stainless steel and held several months on fine lees, it lands cut and smoky rather than tropical — grapefruit, green herb, gunflint.
