Veteran bartender Alex Clark and wife Amy Grindeland founded Fort Hamilton Distillery in 2016 in Industry City, Brooklyn, to revive pre-Prohibition Northeast American whiskey traditions abandoned since German and Bohemian colonists introduced hearty rye grain that became synonymous with American spirits and classic cocktails. This flagship straight rye distills 100% New York-grown grain from a 90% rye, 10% malted barley mash bill with no corn, aged minimum five years in 30-gallon char level 3 American white oak barrels at 45% ABV, never chill-filtered or colored. Bright caramel, juniper berry, spearmint, and lemon zest lead to underlying caramelized sugar, cherry, white pepper, and tree bark structure—Orthodox Union Certified Pareve Kosher and NY Farm Distillery License eligible, emphasizing grain over barrel at proof designed for cocktails while remaining balanced and nuanced neat.
