The Fontbonne family began distilling herbal liqueurs in France's Savoie region in the 1850s, with founder Jean Fontbonne finalizing a 26-botanical recipe before the company changed hands in 1904. His son René Louis preserved the original formula, which has since been recreated from those notes. Savoie's alpine meadows sit against high-elevation limestone terrain, supplying mountain herbs that define the regional style. At 90 proof, the liqueur combines génépi, angelica, and melissa in the French chartreuse tradition — herbaceous and floral on the palate, subtly sweet, with lingering botanical length.
