When the Nieri family planted their first vines in Cerreto Guidi in 1895, the area was already recognized for fossil-rich soils suited to Bordeaux varieties. Salamartano blends Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from hillside parcels at roughly 150 meters elevation, where clay-dominant sections shift the Merlot toward rounder structure while the fossil-soil blocks push the Cabernets toward firmer tannin. Farming follows sustainable principles across the estate. The 2008 vintage delivers dark cherry, dried herb, and cedar, with a structured mid-palate and a finish that lingers with earthy, graphite-edged tobacco notes.
