Chassagne-Montrachet's premier cru whites are often overshadowed by their Puligny neighbors, but the Clos Saint-Jean lieu-dit delivers a distinctly richer, more textural style from its limestone-rich soils on the village's eastern slope. Domaine Michel Niellon farms these parcels under lutte raisonnée, fermenting first in stainless steel before moving to small oak barrels with 20–30% new wood for eight to nine months, with periodic bâtonnage. The 2022 opens with citrus, wet stone, and faint resinous notes, builds to a generous, medium-bodied mid-palate, and finishes long and structured — better with a few years of additional cellaring.
