Five miles north of Rully, Mercurey is the Côte Chalonnaise's most important red wine commune, built on limestone and clay soils planted predominantly with Pinot Noir. Vincent Dureuil's lieu-dit Les Doues is a 0.33-hectare parcel at the top of the appellation's highest elevation, east-facing and farmed organically. Whole clusters and indigenous yeasts drive fermentation before the wine spends 12 months in barrel (33% new oak) and a further 6 months in tank, bottled unfined and unfiltered. The result is a structured, site-specific Pinot Noir with red cherry, earth, and the firm limestone-driven backbone characteristic of high-altitude Mercurey.
