Historic Château Maucaillou, founded in 1875 by wine merchant J. Petit-Laroche, derives its name from the medieval term for gravel soils once deemed unsuitable for grain but perfect for viticulture in Moulis-en-Médoc. This second wine benefits from the same exceptional gravelly terroir that has earned the estate acclaim since 1889, crafted with identical attention by Philippe Dourthe through rigorous sorting and aging. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc delivers generous black plum and boysenberry fruit with hints of cocoa and dried herbs, supported by silky tannins and a fleshy, round mouthfeel. Supple red cherry notes and subtle earthy undertones lead to a lengthy finish, making this an approachable yet sophisticated Bordeaux ideal for grilled meats and duck.
