Component Wine Co. sources 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Caldwell Vineyard's 1980s-planted vines in Coombsville, where sobrante loam soil sits in a caldera—a collapsed ancient volcano with compressed ash and loam creating old-world structure and texture. Winemaker Marc Gagnon ferments traditionally in stainless steel, then conducts smaller fermentation in Taransaud Puncheon for added texture and complexity before aging in 80% new French oak, producing 150 cases at 14.9% alcohol. This 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet shows dark fruit, electric intensity, and vibrant acidity from Coombsville's cooler temperatures, with nuanced aromatics and brooding character that will develop more complexity through 2040—bottled to express energetic fruit profile with bright acid structure.
