When Canadian entrepreneur Cliff Lede acquired 60 acres in Stags Leap District in 2002, he handed vineyard management to David Abreu, who replanted the blocks and matched each section to its specific soil type and sun exposure. The Napa Valley bottling draws from gravelly-loam valley floor and volcanic soils over fractured shale — the combination that gives Stags Leap its structured minerality. Fermentation and aging details follow house standards for this tier, producing a wine that opens with black cherry and dark chocolate, moves through cassis and crushed mulberry, and finishes with polished tannins and a lift of violet.
