Réserve de la Comtesse serves as the second wine of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, a Pauillac Second Growth established in the 1680s when Thérèse de Rauzan brought L'Enclos Rauzan vineyards as dowry to the Pichon Longueville family, who managed it for 250 years until Champagne house Louis Roederer acquired the property in 2007. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot comes from parcels adjacent to Château Latour on deep Günzian gravel soils that provide exceptional drainage and warmth for ripening Bordeaux varieties in Pauillac's maritime climate. Blackberry, cassis, and violets dominate the nose, while the palate delivers dark cherry, graphite, cigar box, and structured tannins with the power and complexity that rivals many estates' Grand Vins. The property gained Second Growth status in the 1855 Classification under Baron Joseph de Pichon Longueville, who inherited the estate at 19 and spent 71 years improving wine quality through revolutions and regime changes.
