Second wine of Grand-Puy-Lacoste, a Pauillac Fifth Growth owned by the Borie family since 1978, this blend sources fruit from the estate's gravelly hilltop parcels—"puy" meaning small height in medieval French—that sit on outcrops with terroir comparable to First Growth properties. The wine combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc from vines managed by François-Xavier Borie and his daughter Emeline, who apply the same rigorous viticulture standards used for the Grand Vin. Black currant, cassis, and cedar aromas lead to a palate of dark plum, pencil shavings, and tobacco leaf, with firm tannins and bright acidity reflecting Pauillac's deep gravel soils that provide excellent drainage and heat retention for Cabernet Sauvignon ripening. The estate's documented history stretches to the 16th century, passing through a single family line until the Bories acquired it and renovated the château and winemaking facilities.
