This Fourth Growth Pauillac estate, named after Sieur of Duhart—gun-runner to Louis XIV—gained its 1855 classification before declining through multiple ownership changes until Domaines Barons de Rothschild acquired it in 1962 and spent 40 years replanting the 188-acre vineyard. The 2014 vintage blends 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot from gravelly soils adjacent to Château Lafite Rothschild, managed by the same team using identical hand-harvesting and yield-control methods. At 13% ABV, the wine shows restrained black fruit that opens with aeration, oak integration that adds structure without dominating, and a palate progression from powerful tannins to rounded mid-weight body before finishing with fresh acidity and subtle spice. The producer recommends 6-8 years cellaring for the Cabernet-dominant blend to soften its tannins and develop the tertiary complexity typical of Pauillac's deep gravel beds that promote drainage and concentrate flavors.
