Champagne's chalky subsoils and cool continental climate create the backbone for every bottle Krug produces, and the 172ème Édition channels that terroir across a blend of 146 wines from 11 different years spanning 1998 to 2016. The composition runs 44% Pinot Noir, 36% Chardonnay, and 20% Meunier, with reserve wines making up 42% of the final blend. Extended aging on the lees in Krug's cellars develops complexity without sacrificing freshness. Expect baked apple, toasted hazelnut, and brioche on the nose, with honey, citrus zest, and almond paste carrying through to a mineral-edged finish.
