What's unusual for Pessac-Léognan: Haut-Bailly's soils are almost entirely deep gravel over sand, with virtually no clay — a combination that pushes Cabernet Sauvignon toward finesse over power rather than the structured weight more common elsewhere in the appellation. The 2019 is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Petit Verdot, harvested late September through mid-October. On the palate it's medium to full-bodied with very fine-grained tannins, blackcurrant, black raspberry, dark chocolate, and a long, fragrant finish.
