Napa Cabernet at this price point rarely pulls fruit from eight distinct sub-appellations in a single blend — Caymus does, sourcing across the valley from cool Coombsville in the south to warm Calistoga in the north, with roughly a quarter of the fruit coming from mountain sites like Atlas Peak and Howell Mountain. Those hillside vines dig into volcanic, mineral-rich soils that add tannic backbone, while the valley floor contributes the plush, ripe texture the Wagner family has traded in since founding Caymus in 1972. Aged in French and American oak, the 2023 delivers blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry with cocoa, vanilla, and cedar, finishing long with dark chocolate and a lick of spice.
