In 1978, Alberto del Pedregal Aldunate created Carta Vieja — the first brand to carry the del Pedregal family name publicly — drawing on grapes from their Loncomilla Valley vineyards in Maule, where sandy loam soils of low fertility naturally control vine vigor and concentrate fruit. The Maule Valley's Mediterranean climate pushes Cabernet Sauvignon toward dark-fruit intensity, and the winery follows a sustainable, minimal-intervention approach in the cellar. Blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant lead on the nose with cassis and vanilla, while the palate is full and generous with soft notes of tobacco and pepper carrying through to a clean, persistent finish.
