The Favati family has crafted wine in Cesinali since the early 1900s, with brothers Piersabino and Giancarlo now stewarding vineyards in Irpinia's volcanic hills east of Naples—clayey soils at 450-500 meters elevation in the Cretarossa vineyard provide ideal conditions for Aglianico, Campania's noble red grape that thrives in this ancient terrain shaped by Mount Vesuvius. This 100% Aglianico from Venticano-San Mango ferments in stainless steel, then ages 12 months in French oak barrique plus six years(!) in bottle before release, developing deep garnet hues and concentrated aromas of black pepper, dark cherry, anise, and oak spice. The palate delivers robust fruit concentration but neversappy or sweet, vibrant acidity, and firm yet approachable tannins—a powerful expression perfect alongside barbecued meats and aged cheeses.
