Irpinia's clay-heavy soils, stretched across volcanic hills east of Naples at 450–500 meters elevation, are among southern Italy's most compelling addresses for Aglianico — and the Cretarossa vineyard in Venticano-San Mango sits squarely at that center. The Favati family, farming here since the early 1900s, ferments this 100% Aglianico in stainless steel, then ages it 12 months in French oak barrique before extended bottle aging prior to release. The result: deep garnet, black pepper, dark cherry, anise, and oak spice, with robust acidity and firm tannins that stay dry throughout.
