CANTINA GIULIANO CHIANTI DOCG 2021

The Colline Pisane subzone sits apart from Chianti's inland heartland — lower hills near the Pisan coast where Mediterranean breezes moderate the climate and limestone-based clay and shale soils drain well while retaining enough moisture for steady vine development. From Casciana Alta in that zone, Cantina Giuliano — founded in 2014 by Parisian winemaker Eli Gauthier and his wife Lara in a 250-year-old family winery — produces one of Italy's few strictly kosher Chiantis, supervised by the OU. The blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Ciliegiolo is fermented in stainless steel, with the wine seeing time in oak to build structure. Expect bright red cherry, raspberry, and violet on the nose, a medium body with polished tannins, and a finish of wild berries and licorice.
