From Verduno, the northernmost and coolest commune in Barolo, Comm. G.B. Burlotto farms calcareous Sant'Agata marls that give Nebbiolo its perfume and lift. Founded in 1850 and run today by Fabio Alessandria, the estate works sustainably—hand-harvesting, minimal treatments, foot-crushed fruit, long aging in large casks. In the challenging 2022 vintage, Burlotto declassified its single-vineyard crus and folded every parcel, including the celebrated Monvigliero, into this classic Barolo. Expect aromas of rose, wild cherry, and raspberry alongside orange peel and white pepper, a savory, earthy core, and fine-grained tannins built for a decade in the cellar.
