Description of Product
Burlotto is a family-owned winery in Verduno, Piedmont, Italy, with a long history of producing high-quality wines. The dream of the family has always been to share Barolo with the world, and they have been working towards this goal since the early 20th century. With a strong connection to the territory and a passion for winemaking, the Burlotto family has built a reputation for producing exceptional wines. Today, the winery is run by Gian Carlo Burlotto and his son Gianluca, who continue the family tradition with the brand Cascina Massara.
Verduno's position as the northernmost municipality in Barolo's DOCG zone showcases distinctive terroir shaped by ancient Tortonian and Messinian geological formations, where the calcareous soils blend clay, sand, and silt from the laminated fossil Marls of Sant'Agata and Cassano Spinola Formation for optimal water retention. This classic Barolo emerges from a harmonious blend of four vineyard sites - Breri, Neirane, Rocche Olmo, and Boscatto - each contributing unique characteristics from their varied exposures and elevations between 240-370 meters. Hand-harvested Nebbiolo undergoes traditional gravity-fed fermentation in French oak vats followed by extended aging in large French oak barrels for up to 33 months, creating a wine that reveals aromas of violets and tar with flavors of red cherries, tobacco, and forest floor, delivering the structured elegance and mineral backbone that defines extremely well-produced Barolo.
