Bruno Clair holds the monopole on Clos du Fonteny, a 0.675-hectare premier cru in Gevrey-Chambertin with vines planted in 1972 and 1987 on east/southeast-facing clay-limestone soils over Premeaux limestone subsoil at 295 meters elevation. Fermentation in open wooden vats uses 30–50% whole bunches with 10–15 days maceration, followed by 18–20 months in oak with 30% new barrels. The 2020 shows red cherry and raspberry with a firm mineral backbone, fine-grained tannins, and a long finish that reflects the precision this small, exclusively held parcel consistently delivers.
