Among Burgundy's most storied Grand Crus, Chambertin Clos de Bèze carries a lineage dating to Benedictine monks in 630 AD — and Bruno Clair works 0.98 hectares of it on southeast-facing clay-limestone slopes at 280 meters elevation, with vines planted across three generations (1912, 1974, 1987). Whole-bunch fermentation at 30–50% and extended maceration in wooden vats precede 18–20 months in 40% new oak. The 2019 delivers black cherry, crushed stone, and warm spice, with dense but polished tannins and a finish that lingers well past the glass.
