Chambertin Clos de Bèze is Gevrey-Chambertin's most storied Grand Cru site — a southeast-facing slope at roughly 280 meters elevation whose clay-limestone soils shift from thin, rocky Premeaux limestone at the top to richer clay at the bottom, with vines first planted here by monks in 630 AD. Bruno Clair holds just under one hectare, with parcels dating to 1912, 1974, and 1987. Whole-cluster fermentation runs at 30–50% in open wooden vats for 10–15 days, then the wine ages 18–20 months in French oak at roughly 40% new. The 2020 opens with brambly red fruit and minerals, a sappy, saline mid-palate, silky tannins, and a long, spice-laced finish that will need years to fully resolve.
