Sandy, low-nutrient soils are rare in the Chehalem Mountains, and Silice — named for the siliceous, deep sandy loam that defines it — is built entirely around that anomaly. Bergström's 18-acre biodynamically farmed vineyard sits within the AVA at elevations that deliver cool, drawn-out ripening, pushing the Pinot Noir toward spice-driven character rather than the plush red fruit typical of Willamette. The wine is fermented and aged using minimal-intervention techniques consistent with the estate's Demeter-certified approach. Expect cola, gingerbread, and sassafras alongside a saline lift, with dark fruit and baking spice carrying through a seamless finish.
